Encoders
Can I use an encoder on my spindle?
Yes, MASSO provides support for a spindle encoder in both Mill and Lathe software.
In Lathe software, the spindle encoder is used for threading, ensuring correct feed synchronisation with the Z axis
In Mill software, the spindle encoder is used to display spindle RPM
Spindle encoder wiring and setup details are available here: https://docs.masso.com.au/wiring-and-setup/setup-and-calibration/spindle-rpm-encoder
Can I use absolute or linear encoders on my axis?
No, MASSO does not support absolute or linear encoders for axis position feedback.
This includes:
Glass scales
Absolute encoders built into motors
Encoders are not used to home the machine. Homing sensors or switches are required on each axis to establish machine home.
What is the encoder input on MASSO used for?
The encoder input on MASSO is used for:
Spindle RPM display on the F2 screen
Synchronisation during threading operations in Lathe mode
It cannot be used for motor positioning or axis feedback.
