Outside Diameter Turn Wizard
The Outside Diameter Turn Wizard is used to machine the outside diameter of a lathe workpiece using roughing, finishing, and optional spring passes.

Parameter Descriptions
Name
![]()
This is the name used to describe the wizard.
It is displayed on the F5 – Conversational page.
Tool No
![]()
This is the tool number used to machine the part.
Spindle Spin-Up Delay (ms)
![]()
This sets a delay, in milliseconds, after the spindle starts rotating and before machining begins.
Spindle Direction

This setting determines whether the spindle rotates clockwise or counter-clockwise.
Roughing Pass

These parameters define the roughing toolpath:
RPM
This is the spindle speed used during the roughing pass.Feedrate
This is the feed rate used during the roughing pass.Depth of Cut per Pass
This is the amount of material removed in each roughing pass.
The total number of passes is calculated from the total depth of cut divided by this value.
After roughing is complete, the part remains oversized by the Finishing Depth of Cut (Final) value. This remaining material is removed during the finishing pass.
Finishing Pass

These parameters define the finishing toolpath:
RPM
This is the spindle speed used during the finishing pass.Feedrate
This is the feed rate used during the finishing pass.Depth of Cut (Final)
This is the amount of material removed during the finishing pass.
Spring Passes
![]()
This sets the number of spring passes to perform.
A spring pass repeats the final finishing cut to remove any remaining material caused by tool deflection under load, which can result in the part being slightly undersized.
Initial Diameter
![]()
This is the diameter of the raw stock held in the chuck.
Final Diameter
![]()
This is the target diameter that the stock will be machined down to.
Z End
![]()
This defines the Z-axis end position for the machining operation.
Z End is a smaller value than Z Start.
The total machining length is determined by the difference between Z Start and Z End.
Z Start
![]()
This defines the Z-axis starting position for the machining operation.
Z Start is a larger value than Z End.
Tool Clearance
![]()
This is the distance the tool moves away from the stock when returning to the starting position for the next cut.
Clearance is always a positive value.
QR Code Help

The QR code opens this documentation page for quick reference.
Save
![]()
This saves the wizard parameters and returns you to the F5 – Conversational page.
If any parameters are missing or incorrect, MASSO will display
and highlight the affected fields.
![]()
Cancel
![]()
This cancels all changes and returns you to the F5 – Conversational page without saving.
Tab Key Navigation

On MASSO G3, users with an external keyboard can press the Tab key to move through parameters one at a time, reducing the need to use a mouse.
