Controller Alarms

This page explains the common alarms displayed by MASSO and how to clear them.

E-Stop Alarm

An E-Stop alarm is shown when MASSO starts.

  • Press and release the E-Stop button to confirm it is working

  • This will clear the alarm

  • The alarm will also activate if the E-Stop button is pressed during operation

Homing Alarm

This alarm indicates the machine has not been homed.

  • Home the machine to clear the alarm

  • If a Homing Error occurs, something went wrong during homing
     • Re-home the machine to clear the alarm

Door Alarm

This alarm indicates the cabinet door is open.

  • Close the door to clear the alarm

  • The machine can be configured to automatically stop and start when the door is opened or closed

G2 Note:

If using a G2, a door alarm output must be assigned even if no door is fitted.
Setting this input to Logic Low will remove the alarm.

Soft Limit Alarm

Each axis has defined travel limits in its axis settings.

  • If a commanded move exceeds these limits, a Soft Limit alarm is triggered

  • Issue a valid move within limits to clear the alarm

Hard Limit Alarm

Triggered by homing sensors.

  • Usually caused by a mechanical or wiring fault

  • Find and fix the cause of the fault

  • Home the machine to clear the alarm

Probing Alarm

Occurs during a probing cycle if:

  • No probe signal is received within the specified distance, or

  • The probe is already active when probing starts

To clear:

  • Issue a new probing command

  • Ensure the probe is not active

  • Use a valid probing distance

Tool Error Alarm

This alarm occurs if an unsupported tool number is selected:

  • G3 / MASSO Touch: Tool number greater than 118

  • G2: Tool number greater than 31

Motor Alarm

Triggered when a Stepper or Servo drive enters an alarm state.

  • MASSO will enter Feed Hold and stop the spindle

  • The drive must support alarm signalling and be correctly wired

To clear:

  1. Clear the fault on the drive

  2. Home the machine to clear the alarm in MASSO

Lubricant Low Alarm

If a lubricant vessel with an alarm output is connected:

  • A Lubrication Low alarm is displayed when the level is low

  • Top up the lubricant

  • The alarm clears automatically

Air Pressure Low Alarm

Triggered when air pressure drops below the sensor threshold.

  • Alarm input changes to High

  • Air Pressure Low alarm is displayed

To clear:

  1. Restore air pressure (input returns to Low)

  2. Home the machine

  3. Use Jump to Line to resume machining

Spindle Alarm

Monitors the spindle alarm output from the VFD.

  • If the input goes High, MASSO enters Feed Hold

  • Spindle Alarm is displayed

To clear:

  • Home the machine

Spindle Coolant Pulses Alarm

Monitors coolant flow using pulse input.

  • Requires at least 1 pulse every 10 seconds while the spindle is running

  • If no pulse is detected:

    • MASSO enters Feed Hold

    • Spindle Coolant Alarm is displayed

To clear:

  • Home the machine

Spindle Coolant Flow Alarm

Monitors coolant flow using a continuous signal.

  • Alarm triggers if the input stays High for 10 seconds or more while the spindle is running

  • MASSO enters Feed Hold

To clear:

  • Home the machine
