Top of Part Probing Cycle
Top of Part Probing Cycle
The Top of Part probing cycle is used to locate the Z height of the top surface of a workpiece.
This probing cycle can be used for both inside and outside probing and is started by pressing the centre square in the large probing block on the Probing screen.

Using the Top of Part Probing Cycle
Select Inside or Outside probing as required.
Enter or adjust the probing values.
Press Save to apply any changes before starting the probing cycle.
Probing Operation
The Z axis moves downward at the feed rate specified in the Probing Feedrate field.

When the probe contacts the surface, the Z-axis DRO is updated with the value entered in the Z Position field.

The Z Probe Offset is typically used to compensate for probe tip length or touch plate thickness.

After probing, the Z axis returns to the original starting position.
The displayed Z coordinate updates to reflect the newly probed surface position.
Work Offset Selection
From software version 5.0 and later, the probing result can be applied to a selected work offset.
Select the required work offset before starting the probing cycle.
Only the selected work offset will be updated.

The active work offset is shown at the top of the screen.
CAUTION: It is advisable to quickly test your touch probe before starting a probing cycle to ensure it is working properly. This is done by triggering the Probe and observing the
indication at the top of the screen. When triggered the indication will change green
This is done by touching the probe tip in case of a 3D touch probe or by tapping the plate against the tool in case of a probing plate.
