Automatic Tool Length Calibration
On milling machines or routers where tools are changed manually and tool holders are not used, calibrating tool length can be time-consuming.
MASSO provides an automatic tool length calibration feature called Auto Tool Zero, which allows tool length to be measured automatically after each tool change.
Once configured:
- The user loads the tool into the spindle
- MASSO moves the tool to the predefined tool setter location
- The tool length is automatically measured
- The machine then returns to the machining position
Touch Probe Skip

When using a touch probe, Auto Tool Zero may attempt to run automatically, which can damage the probe.
To prevent this:
- Assign a specific tool number for the touch probe
- MASSO will skip Auto Tool Zero for this tool number
- Enter the probe’s calibrated length in the F4 Tools and Work Offset screen
This also disables the spindle while the touch probe is loaded to prevent accidental operation.
Only Auto Tool Zero When Manually Requested

On machines using pre-calibrated tool holders, Auto Tool Zero is not required for every tool change. It is only needed when setting up or recalibrating a tool in the holder.
If this option is enabled:
- MASSO will not run Auto Tool Zero automatically during tool changes
- The user can manually start the cycle when needed
To run Auto Tool Zero manually:
- Go to the F4 Tools and Work Offset screen
- Select the tool
- Press the Auto Tool Zero button
The system will perform the calibration and automatically save the tool length
