Dust Hood

The Dust Hood logic is now a stand-alone feature and is no longer part of the tool changer logic.

There are 2 types of Dust Hood logic available depending on your machine setup.

A manual override is available from the MDI screen, allowing the Dust Hood to be enabled or disabled while the machine is running.

This allows all tool changers, including manual tool change, to use a Dust Hood if required.

The Dust Hood is automatically controlled by the spindle:

• When the spindle turns ON, the Dust Hood moves DOWN
• When the spindle turns OFF, the Dust Hood moves UP

This is useful if:

• The tool is too large for the Dust Hood
• The user wants a clear view of the cutting process

The MDI screen can be accessed during machining to enable or disable the Dust Hood as needed.

Default State:

• Dust Hood is enabled when MASSO is powered on
• It can be disabled from the MDI screen

Dust Hood Logic – Type 1

Outputs

• Dust Hood-1 – Move Dust Hood UP and DOWN

Inputs

• Dust Hood-1 – Dust Hood Down signal (optional)

Setup

• Assign a Dust Hood-1 output
• Assign a Dust Hood-1 input (optional)
  • HIGH = Dust Hood is DOWN

  • LOW = Dust Hood is UP

     

If the input is not assigned, MASSO will ignore it and continue operation.

Dust Hood Down (M3)

• MASSO checks if Dust Hood is enabled in MDI
• If enabled, Dust Hood-1 output goes HIGH
• MASSO waits up to 5 seconds for Dust Hood-1 input to go HIGH
• If not detected, a Dust Hood Down Error is displayed

Dust Hood Up (M5)

• Dust Hood-1 output goes LOW
• MASSO waits up to 5 seconds for Dust Hood-1 input to go LOW
• If not detected, a Dust Hood Up Error is displayed

Dust Hood Logic – Type 2

Outputs

• Dust Hood-1 – Move Dust Hood DOWN
• Dust Hood-2 – Move Dust Hood UP

Inputs

• Dust Hood-1 – Dust Hood DOWN signal (required)
• Dust Hood-2 – Dust Hood UP signal (required)

• Assign two outputs:
  • Dust Hood-1 (DOWN)
  • Dust Hood-2 (UP)

• Assign two inputs:
  • Dust Hood-1 (DOWN signal)
  • Dust Hood-2 (UP signal)

Note: These inputs are required and must be installed.

Dust Hood Down (M3)

• MASSO checks if Dust Hood is enabled in MDI
• If enabled, Dust Hood-1 output goes HIGH
• MASSO waits up to 5 seconds for Dust Hood-1 input to go HIGH
• If not detected:
  • A Dust Hood Down Error is displayed
  • Dust Hood-1 output goes LOW
• Once Dust Hood-1 input is received:
  • Dust Hood-2 output goes LOW

Dust Hood Up (M5)

• Dust Hood-1 output goes LOW
• MASSO waits up to 5 seconds for Dust Hood-2 input to go HIGH
• If not detected:
  • A Dust Hood Up Error is displayed
  • Dust Hood-2 output goes LOW
• Once Dust Hood-2 input is received:
  • Dust Hood-2 output goes LOW
