Center Probing cycles
The Center Probing cycle is available from both the Inside and Outside probing pages.
It is shown as
on MASSO G3 / MASSO Touch and
on MASSO G2.
The red dot indicates the probe position at the start of the probing cycle.
The yellow line represents the surface of the object being probed.
This probing cycle is used to locate the centre of an object, such as a hole or a pocket.
General Operation
When entering new values or switching between Inside and Outside probing modes, the Save Settings button must be pressed to apply the changes.
Probing is performed at the feed rate entered in the Probing Feedrate field. ![]()
Center probing is an automatic four-stage probing process.
After each probe contact, the probe returns to the starting position at rapid speed before beginning the next probing move.
The Probe Diameter must be entered into the Probe Diameter field before starting the cycle. ![]()
The X and Y Offset values can be used to compensate for alignment errors or to offset the probe position if the probe is not directly aligned with the spindle.
![]()
The X Position and Y Position fields define the working coordinates that will be applied at the completion of the probing cycle.

The probing cycle can be stopped at any time by pressing the same probing cycle button again or by selecting a different probing cycle.
Work Offset Selection
From software version 5.0 and later, the probing result can be applied to a selected work offset.
The required work offset must be selected before starting the probing cycle.
Only the selected work offset will be updated by the probing result. ![]()

The probe moves in the -X direction at the specified probing feed rate until it contacts the part.
The probe returns to the starting position at rapid speed.
The probe moves in the +X direction at the specified probing feed rate until it contacts the part.
The probe moves to the X-axis centre position, calculated from the two X probe contacts.
The probe moves in the -Y direction at the specified probing feed rate until it contacts the part.
The probe returns to the starting position at rapid speed.
The probe moves in the +Y direction at the specified probing feed rate until it contacts the part.
The probe moves to the Y-axis centre position, calculated from the two Y probe contacts.
The DRO values are updated using the values entered in the X Position and Y Position fields.
