Machine Conversion and Builds

I want to convert a machine to use with MASSO, will it work?

In most cases, yes.

If your machine:

  • Has 5 axes or fewer, and

  • Does not have unusual or specialised requirements

then MASSO is generally suitable.

However, MASSO does not know the specific details of your machine, including:

  • Existing wiring

  • Installed hardware

  • Drive types and interfaces

It is the responsibility of the person performing the conversion to assess whether the existing hardware is compatible.

When converting a CNC machine, you must evaluate:

  • Motor drives and their connection types

  • Spindle type and VFD interface

  • Required inputs and outputs

Each existing component must be checked to ensure it complies with MASSO requirements.
Any non-compliant components will need to be replaced.

If you are unsure about a specific item, refer to the manufacturer’s documentation.

Can you supply a wiring diagram for my machine conversion?

No. MASSO does not provide machine design or conversion services.

However, we do provide example wiring diagrams in the documentation, including:

  • Stepper drive examples

  • Servo drive examples

  • Spindle VFD examples

These examples cover a range of commonly used hardware.

What equipment do I need to convert my CNC machine?

To determine your requirements, start by creating an inventory of:

  • What your machine already has and can be reused

  • What additional components you need to add

Example: Basic Mill Requirements

Required

  • MASSO G3 or MASSO Touch

  • Keyboard, monitor, and mouse (required for MASSO G3, not needed for MASSO Touch)

  • USB flash drive

  • 24V DC power supply for MASSO

  • Motor drives using STEP/PULSE and DIRECTION signals (stepper or servo)

  • Power supply for motor drives

  • Spindle with VFD or router

  • Homing sensors/switches (one per axis)

  • MASSO relay module (for external E-Stop, motor drive disable, tower lights, etc.)

  • Tool setter (for automatic tool zero)

  • E-Stop button

Additional (application-dependent)

  • Encoder (required for lathe threading)

  • Pendant

  • Spindle encoder (used for threading on a lathe)

What can MASSO provide for my machine?
